Since the events of the war and the terror attacks, thousands of Israelis have been living with a complicated inner reality. Some have gone back to work and to routine on the outside, but inside they are still living that same traumatic moment.
Fears, anxiety, nightmares, constant hypervigilance and difficulty returning to ordinary life have become part of daily life for many. PTSD is a recognised psychological injury, and in many cases there may be rights available from the National Insurance Institute.
What are the signs of PTSD?
- Panic attacks
- Fear of loud noises and sirens
- Nightmares
- Difficulty sleeping
- Social withdrawal
- A decline in functioning at work
- Irritability and restlessness
- Difficulty being in crowded places
- A constant sense of being on edge
Even people who never experienced a mental health difficulty before may find themselves living with PTSD following terror incidents and war.
What entitlements may be available?
- Recognition as a hostile-action casualty
- Psychological disability percentages
- Monthly allowances
- Psychological treatment
- Vocational rehabilitation
- Tax benefits
- Reimbursement of medical expenses
💡 Worth knowing
People who were not physically injured may also be entitled to recognition. A psychological injury is recognised in its own right as a disability for the purposes of National Insurance allowances.
